Entirely self-taught, Heston Blumenthal revolutionised British gastronomy, drawing on science, history and his own unstoppable curiosity to create a cuisine widely acknowledged as highly innovative and original.
These exceptional achievements have been recognised and rewarded with three Michelin stars, honorary degrees from Reading and Bristol universities and the University of London, an honorary fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry and an OBE.
The Fat Duck has been voted no. 1 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants.
Heston thinks differently from others. He believes his culinary determination, inventiveness and creativity stem in large part from his neurodivergence (he was diagnosed with ADHD in 2017) and from being bipolar (which was diagnosed in 2023).
In recent years, through his book Is This a Cookbook? and his investigations into the microbiome and mental wellbeing, he has focused on a second revolution: increasing awareness about mental health and neurodiversity, and promoting greater understanding and inclusivity in the hospitality industry and beyond.
